How To Grow Your Email List From Scratch In 3 Easy Steps

We know how important it is to grow your email list with your ideal customers. People who love what you stand for, buy your products and services and tell their friends about you.

Every online business wants that.

And to help you with this important step in starting and scaling a successful business I’ve put together 3 easy ways to grow your email list from scratch.

Let’s do this!

1. Create weekly content and attract your ideal subscribers

Create valuable content on a weekly basis that will help and serve your audience. You want to create content that will move them closer to their desired goal. This can be in the form of a blog, video series or podcast episodes.

It’s crucial that you know who you’re talking to and have a clear understanding of their struggles and desires.

If you need a little help with this then grab my Attract Your Ideal Client freebie. It will help you identify your dream customer so you can create weekly content specifically with them in mind.

2. Create a desirable lead magnet and an opt-in page

a) Lead Magnets

A Lead Magnet is a free valuable "gift" that you offer your audience in exchange for their name and email address.

When it comes to creating a desirable lead magnet take some time to think about what your audience want most in their lives right now, as it relates to your business.

For example, ask yourself questions like:

What are they struggling with and how can I help them?

What's the quickest way I can get them results?

What's the best form of content for my audience, as in will they like a simple PDF or will an audio or video freebie work better?

Put your thinking cap on and brainstorm some ideas.

You want to add immediate value to your customers with the goal to help them move closer to their desired outcome. Serve them straight away and start building a trusting relationship

OK, now let's, let's look at the second part of this step:

b) Opt-in and Thank You Pages

After your Lead Magnet is created you'll need to create a standalone opt-in page to collect names and emails inside your email service provider.

You’ll also want a Thank You page so your new subscribers know that you received their details.

The Thank You Page should also let your new subscriber know what to do next, for example, check their inbox to grab their freebie!

Once you’ve created the Opt-in and Thank You page you’ll integrate them with your email service provider.

This will ensure that every subscriber that opts in to access your Lead Magnet will be added to your email list. And voila, your email list is set up and you can start sharing your weekly content with them.

See how it all comes together!?

3 Bonus Top Tips for this bit:

  1. Use an Opt-in template

  2. Remember K.I.S.S. - no, not the rock band - the acronym: Keep It Simple, Sweetie

  3. Highlight the awesome outcome they'll experience when they subscribe

OK, let's move on to the final step.

3. Share on social media and build connect with your audience

Now that you've got your Lead Magnet connected it to an Opt-in page with a Thank you page, it’s time to share your lead magnet on social media.

You'll want to talk about your lead magnet on all of your social media platforms. You should include a link to it in your bio and in your profile. And for extra brownie points, include it in your business email signature too!

And that's it, a simple 3 step process to start growing your email list from scratch.

This 3 step process will get you started or re-energise your list building efforts.

I know some of this might seem a little daunting, especially in the beginning when you're starting out, but be patient with yourself and show yourself a little grace.

This is new stuff that you're learning and sometimes learning new things can seem hard at first. But we can do hard things.

It may take a while until you find your groove and that's OK. Be patient and keep going. Trust the process and trust in your own ability to learn and grow. Don't give up. You'll find your groove soon enough.

OK, I'd love to hear from you. Which one of the 3 steps do you think you can get started on right now? Which step are you a little nervous about or which one gets you fired up?

I'll go first, I love creating content - I could do it all day, every day, if I could - so step 1 is my favourite.
