I WANNA TO CELEBRATE YOU

Your decision to start (or run) a creative business that lights you up takes courage, grit and determination and, yes baby, that is worth celebrating.

But there’s a problem ~

It seems like everyone else on the planet has been bitten by the same “start your own business” bug.

And thanks to social media and the internet it’s easier than ever before to start a business.

So, why is this a problem?

Well, most likely you're hustling your tail off, trying the latest marketing trends and hacks to beat the algorithm, crossing your fingers and toes hoping you will get found on Google and stand out in a noisy world...

HERE'S THE PART WHERE I SWOOP IN LIKE THE AVENGERS, ROCKIN' A BAGGY TEE AND RIPPED JEANS WITH A THESAURUS AND LAPTOP IN ONE HAND AND THE OTHER ARM OUTSTRETCHED

Nat Milligan, playing matchmaker in the digital space, hooking up creative business owners, like you, with words and marketing strategies that align with your values and help you stand out.

So, why do you want to start a business?

THIS IS YOUR REASON FOR RISING EARLY AND WORKING LATE SO, LET'S MAKE IT A GOOD ONE

Every business solves a problem ~ here's mine ~

It dawned on me that incredibly talented and hardworking people were struggling to put pen to paper in a way that felt authentic and natural. They wanted to start a business, create a website and post on social media but they didn't have the foggiest idea where to start or what to do.

Let's be real for a sec, have you ever thought...

Do I need a website for my business?

Do people still read blogs?

What should I post on social media and how often?

And this old chestnut...

I don't like being on camera! Nat, pah-leeease don't tell me I need to post pictures of myself on Instagram!

Well, if you're nodding your head then just know you are not alone.

If you're a creative soul, like many of my clients, and being elbow-deep and soul-drenched in your art and expressive outlet is where you like to play because that's where you feel most comfortable and where your genius shines through...

Then tell me ~

When I bring up online marketing, building a website and writing words that help you rank higher on Google, what's your immediate reaction?

Here's my guess ~

It makes you feel a little uncomfortable... Like wearing your best friend's wellies on a rainy day ~ you have to wear them but it doesn’t feel great.

nat on floor with newspapers.jpg

Can you really start a business doing what you love?

IF YOU HAVE THE PASSION,

I HAVE A PLAN

If you've ever felt like it's too late to pursue a dream like start your own business.

Or you feel uncertain about turning a passion project into your full time gig.

Or - and this one breaks my heart - you feel guilty for putting yourself first (for once) and therefore don't follow your heart and live the life you were born to live...

Then...

I want you to know that right here, in this little corner of the web, is your safe place.

You'll find me; shoes off, braids up in a bun, a pot of Earl Grey brewing close by and my girl, Amy Winehouse, playing in the background while I support your vision and champion your goals.

You can throw those concerns to one side ~ at least for a minute ~ and give yourself permission to dream...

YES ~ it is possible

YES ~ you can do it

YES ~ this is your time to shine

As Julie Andrews said in The Sound Of Music ~

LET'S START AT THE VERY BEGINNING, A VERY GOOD PLACE TO START

I'm a London girl, born and bred with roots that span back to the tropical shores of the Caribbean.

Never massively studious as a kid and diagnosed with chatterbox syndrome before the age of 5, my school reports always read, could do better if she worked more and chatted less!

My parents enrolled my brother, sister and me in theatre school - hence the occasional jazz hands and musical reference you'll find throughout this site… “5 -6 -7- and…”

I struggled to read and write when I was a kid, finding my groove with words when I reached secondary school but my anxiety over reading out loud haunted me for years.

Performing on TV and on stage in London’s West End helped me overcome my fears and with the help of dancing and performing arts my confidence grew.

Today ~ I encourage my clients and online community to lean into their fear when it comes to putting themselves in their copy because I believe there’s power in showcasing your personality.

And yes, even if you are in a more “professional” industry, I still believe a little personality can go a long way.

People buy from people and brands they like. So, I show you how to write words for the web in a creative and effective way.

nat kid.jpg

Against the odds...

Who would've guessed that this little brown girl who struggled to write sentences would leave school with an English A-level and 3 years later with a degree in the same subject -

Oh, let me jump in here with a quick caveat ~

For any sceptics out there thinking you need a degree in English to write copy online... you don't.  Stick around I’ll show you how to do it! [wink]

Step aside Janet ~

My fantasy of being plucked from obscurity by a scout from Janet Jackson’s team requesting I join her on her next world tour was precisely that ~ a fantasy.

The natural next step ~ no pun intended ~ was to teach, which I did in the form of tap, jazz, and street dance at the very school where I trained, Sylvia Young Theatre School.

Then an opportunity to work part-time in a charity gift shop came up which changed everything.

My first taste of marketing

LET'S FAST-TRACK THIS JOURNEY FROM MY CORNER OFFICE IN THE CITY TO RUNNING MY OWN BUSINESS HELPING OTHERS DO THE SAME

Within 5 years I'd moved from part-time shop assistant to full- time sales exec where I was part of a sales team in a worldwide organisation that raised money to support women and families around the world.

I was cutting my sales and marketing teeth without realising it. In this role, my rapport with customers and love for working one-on-one with over 120 sales reps became apparent.

One of the most important lessons I learnt was this ~

When you have a deeper understanding of your customers and show compassion for their needs and frustrations, everything ~ from copywriting to sales and marketing ~ becomes so much easier.

Compassionate Marketing

This is one of my core values and was nurtured in my small corner office in the City of London many moons ago.

When I left my corporate job, I was inspired to start a lifestyle blog and online shop selling fairtrade and ethical gifts that I did for 3 years before stepping into copy and content writing.

I studied website design and invested in social media courses so I could work as a website and social media manager for clients, helping them create their websites and grow their online presence.

OK, I know this is super cheesy but...

YOUR GIFT IS YOUR SUPERPOWER

If you're anything like me then the words "gift and superpower" makes you roll your eyes. I know!

But when I see the transformation my clients experience after we work together, it's hard to deny.

Here's how it works...

I show you how to write words that connect with your audience in an authentic and natural-sounding way

YOU are the wow factor, the crowning jewel, the crème de la crème, the shining star.

You implement what you learn and razzle-dazzle online!*

*I warned you about the showbiz clichés

Website worthy copy and witty repartee...

ARE BUT A SCRIBBLE AWAY

nat typing on bed.jpg

So, I've been copywriting for about 10 years now and have worked as a consultant and freelancer for small creative businesses and budding entrepreneurs, from start-ups to million-pound companies and award-winning businesses.

Today, I run a profitable copywriting and online marketing business, mostly from my desk but sometimes, I confess, from my bed, catering to the needs of my 1-on-1 clients at various stages of business.

Helping them create websites, blog with confidence, post with consistency and write words that sound natural and on-brand.

I believe everyone has a compelling story, message or mission inside them.

If you’re ready to share yours with the world then I'M YOUR GIRL.

I love and appreciate you for hanging with me ~

A FEW OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS

Drew

He’s from a small island off the coast of the UK.

I’m a city girl to my core.

He loves movies with fast cars, buildings being blown up and anything where Tom Cruise saves the world.

Me? Not so much.

Give me a comedy series like Peep Show, The Office or Black~ish and I’m in heavenly sofa-lounging bliss.

He produces music, I dance to it.

We met back when he was rocking G-Star jeans and Timberlands and I was wearing tank tops and baggy pants.

Thankfully, the time has moved the fashion trends on but the way this man makes me laugh remains unchanged.

~ IMAGINE THIS ~

You meet your best friend for a coffee and a cheeky flapjack and she asks about that business idea you’ve been talking about for ages.

Expecting the usual response; excuses about time and not understanding tech, etc., you surprise her.

A big smile sweeps across your face as you whip out your phone and show her your brand new website.

You are bubbling with excitement.

To your friend, you seem like a completely different person. She can’t get a word in edgeways for the next hour while you passionately tell her about your social media stats and email open rates, the latest orders you shipped and new customer enquiries that are flooding in.

Your email list is growing with your dream customers and you cannot quite believe that you get to wake up every morning ~ whenever you like ~ and make money doing work that lights you up...
