Tools To Help You Start And Grow Your Online Business

I pretty much live in Google. I use the drive, docs and calendar everyday. I create questionnaires using forms and use sheets for most of my spreadsheet needs.

I can comment and support my clients whenever we work on a project at the same time. It’s free and it’s reassuring to know that your work is automatically backed up.

Asana is a productivity tool that helps you create projects, set goals and stay on track. You can invite team members to collaborate on projects and assign each other different tasks.

Asana can minimise the back and forth of emails because teams can stay accountable, focused and reachable inside of Asana. And because it's an online tool everyone can access it from wherever they’re located.

I use it in my business, for both personal tasks and client projects. You can make the most of Asana’s features in the basic package which is free.

Flodesk is an email service provider that allows you to easily customise attractive templates to send to your email list.

Their designs are beautiful and they make the process of creating your email marketing campaigns a dream. If you're audience would appreciate receiving attractively designed emails then Flodesk are the provider for you.

The Flodesk team are friendly and approachable, which is important if you ever need to reach out to them. I use them in my business and highly recommend them to clients.

Check them out and see for yourself. Be sure to use my discount code so you can get an incredible 50% off your subscription for life

ConvertKit is another email service provider that I recommended to clients. They make it incredibly easy for online businesses to capture and securely store the names and emails of their subscribers.

They offer different packages depending on your needs but as you start your business you can get up and running using their free package.

ConvertKit and Flodesk allow you to do the same things as far as email marketing goes however ConvertKit is more text based and Flodesk is more image based.

Of course you can add images to ConvertKit emails and just send text based emails from Flodesk. So it really is a personal choice.

Canva is an online design tool that helps you create beautiful pieces of content without needing graphic design skills or artistic flair, which is great for me!

They provide templates to meet all of your social media and marketing needs and you can get started for free and use most of the features as part of the free package.

I use Canva to create my lead magnets, guides and social media content.

I use zoom for calls with clients and the basic package is free and offers unlimited minutes for 1:1 calls as well as webinar and screen sharing features. Zoom has allowed me to connect with clients from all around the world on a weekly basis with ease.

There are tons of social media tools on the market to choose from. I've used and recommend Later for clients when they're starting out. It's a great way to plan and schedule your social media posts.

You can also automate your posts to share across your social media platforms whenever you want. The basic package is free and is easy to set up and connect to your Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest accounts.

Dropbox helps me stay on top of all my images. It’s a fantastic organisational and shareable tool. It's a great way to keep your images for the different areas of your business in one place.

I use Dropbox with clients as an alternative option to Google Drive if that works better for them.

Leadpages are experts in creating high-converting landing pages, websites and pop-ups to help you collect names and emails so you can start to build and grow your email list. They integrate and are compatible with most websites, marketing and sales applications.

I have plans to us Leadpages together with ConvertKit to promote my lead magnets on landing pages and on pop-up windows on my website. The standard account starts at roughly £20 p/m and offers unlimited landing page, pop-ups, alert bars and more great features.

Now, I realise this isn’t an online tool but I swear by my bullet journal. It’s been a game changer for me since I started using it in 2020.

I think as an online business owner it’s great to use online programs but having an analogue component in my business has enabled me to “switch off” at the end of the day, which I think is really important.

I use my journal to record everything from brain dumping exercises to structuring my calendar every month. I use it to organise my weekly and daily tasks. I’d be lost without it.

My bullet journal sits on my desk throughout the day to capture all those thoughts, ideas and a-ha’s that show up as well as notes from calls with clients.

Then at the end of the day, I transfer anything from my bullet journal into either my Google Calendar or Asana, plan the next day and then shut down.

It’s the first thing I look at in the morning and the last thing I look at before lights out. I love online programs but there’s something grounding and calming about putting pen to paper.
